Abstract
Plantago major plant are commonly used as of medicinal plants. According to some studies spoon leaves are known to have effects antiasma because it contains flavonoids.The aim of this study to determine the effect of broadleaf plantain extract on allergic asthma and to determine the effective dose as antiasthma on parameter models of allergic asthma with bronchial eosinophil count in Balb/C. Ethanolic extract of plantago folium was obtained by maceration process using 70% extract. The dose of ethanolic extract of Plantago folium were 36 mg/20 g BW mice, 72 mg/20 g BW and 108 mg/20 g BW mice with 0,5% CMC as negative control and prednisone as positive control. All preparations were administered orally for 27 days. Day 0 and 14 test animals were induced with ovalbumin in Al(OH)₃ intraperitoneally. The 21st , 23th, 25fh and 27th day were induced ovalbumin aerosol. On the 28th day of bronchial tissue were taken for histopathological preparations then performed bronchial eosinophil count.The average amount of data eosionofil were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The results showed that there were significant differences among the five treatment groups. The dose ethanolic extract of plantago folium 108 mg / 20 g BW mice was most effective dose as antiasthma against ovalbumin, which is indicated by a significant decrease in the number of eosinophils compared with negative controls.
