Abstract

Worm infection caused by Soil Transmitted Helminths is a health problem that can be transmitted through the soil, and is still common to people in Indonesia. The work of brick craftsmen uses soil or clay as the main raw material in the brick making process which has a very close relationship with the incidence of helminthiasis infection. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between knowledge and personal hygiene with the presence or absence of Soil Transmitted Helminths infection in Brick Craftsmen in Saung Dadi village, Oku Timur District, South Sumatra. This type of research uses observational research with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique uses Simple Random Sampling so that the sample is 61 respondents. Data analysis using Bivariate analysis, with Chi-Square test with significance level (α = 0.05). The results showed that there was no significant relationship between knowledge with the occurrence of infection with Soil Transmitted Helminths in Brick Craftsmen in Saung Dadi Village, Oku Timur District, South Sumatra. Personal hygiene variables show the same results with the knowledge variable. The results of feses examination on samples from 61 respondents, 5 respondents (8.2%) were infected with Soil Transmitted Helminths and those not infected with Soil Transmitted Helminths were 56 respondents (91.8%).
