Abstract

Arsenic and lead is a heavy metal that is toxic and very dangerous for health. Arsenic and lead can enter the body through the respiratory and digestive systems. This study aims to determine the effect of arsenic and lead on the number of lymphocytes in the spleen of mice Balb/c and an overview of gastric organ histopathology. This research method includes laboratory experimental using 18 mice Balb/c were divided into 3 treatment groups, namely, the negative control, treatment of arsenic and lead treatment. Lymphocyte examination performed with spleen lymphocyte isolation with the calculations manually using the Improved Neubauer counting room, and for an overview of gastric histopathological preparations obtained from observations using Hematoxylin eosin staining. Data such as counting the number of spleen lymphocytes processed using t test (Independent test). The results of t test (Independent test) for the negative control group 2nd week and the treatment of arsenic week 2 (P = 0.014), the negative control group 2nd week and the treatment of lead week 2 (P = 0.033) showed a difference significant (P <0.05), and for the negative control group week 4 and treatment of arsenic week 4 (P = 0.113), the negative control group week 4 and treatment week 4 lead (P = 0.077 ) showed no significant difference (P> 0.05). Histopathologic features of gastric week 2 and 4 showed no damage to the gastric mucosa after given arsenic and lead. Keywords: Arsenic, lead, Balb/c mice, lymphocytes, stomach.
