Abstract
Dementia is a syndrome which nerve cells in the brain are damaged can be caused by particles of free radicals. Leaves beluntas (Pluchea indica (L.) Less.) has potential as an antioxidant that can capture free radicals and regenerates nerve cells. The purpose of this study determine the effect of the methanol extract of leaves beluntas and effective doses to improve memory of rats that induced by plumbum (II) acetate. This study used a sample of 25 white male rats strain wistar 2-3 months old with body weight ± 150 g were divided into 5 groups, which consists of a positive control (Ginkgo Biloba 75mg / 70kgBW), negative control (CMC Na), methanol extract of beluntas leaf (MEB) dose of 50, 100, 200 mg / kgBW. Treatment are given in the first 12 days prior to the induction of plumbum (II) acetate at a dose of 100 mg / kgBW. During the 12 days before and after the induction of pain, performance test conducted using a radial arm maze. Parameters measured were type B error rate and time finding food. These parameters were analyzed using SPSS version 24 to determine the difference in each treatment group. The results showed beluntas leaf methanol extract at a dose of 50, 100, 200 mg / kg body weight can improve the memory of mice on the sixth day after the induction of plumbum (II) acetate. A dose of 200 mg / kg is an effective dosage to improve memory. Keywords: methanol extract of beluntas, spatial memory, radial arm maze, plumbum (II) acetate.
