Abstract
UV-A irradiation which causes wrinkle formation on the skin can infiltrate the stratum corneum to dermis, so drug delivery system which capable to carrying red yeast rice extract antioxidant properties through dermis will be needed. Where it can be done by microemulsion and nanoemulsioan cream. The purpose of this study was to determine microemulsion and nanoemulsion cream of red yeast rice extract as an antiwrinkle on experimental animal and volunteer skin. The anti wrinkle study method tested on rabbit back skin. Rabbit back skin was divided into 5 parts. Part I was not induced with UV-A irradiation, part II-V were induced with UV-A irradiation for 2 weeks. After wrinkle occur, treatments were applied to respective parts etc: I (normal control/treatment were not applied), II (negative control cream), III (positif control cream Revitalift®), IV (microemulsion cream), and V (nanoemulsion cream). The parameter was measured at T-14, T0, and T30. SOD concentration and collagen histopatology were tested at T30. The volunteer study method was tested on 6 of 40 years old volunteer. Volunteer face skin was divided into 4 parts etc: I (control normal), II (negative control cream), III (microemulsion cream), dan IV (nanoemulsion cream). The study determined with Skin Analyzer based on percent of collagen, percent of moisture, and percent of elasticity parameter. The study result showed that red yeast rice extract microemulsion and nanoemulsion cream have antiwrinkle properties to rabbit skin based on percent of collagen, percent of moisture, and percent of elasticity parameters tested with Skin Analyzer. SOD activity test showed that red yeast rice extract microemulsion and nanoemulsion cream SOD concentration significanly (p<0,05) higher than negative and normal control. Histological test showed that red yeast rice extract cream had better visualisation than negative control. TEM study result showed of nano ranged size microemulsion and nanoemulsion particle. Human volunteer test showed that red yeast rice extract nanoemulsion cream showed significanly (p<0,05) higher effect than microemulsion cream to reduce wrinkle by parameters promotion tested with Skin Analyzer.
