Abstract
Curry leaf (Murraya koenigii (L.) Spreng is rutaceae family plants which has antibacterial activity. The chemical content of curry leaves is saponins, tannins, flavonoids, steroids, and alkaloids. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of n-hexana, ethyl asetate, and water fractions of curry leaves 70% ethanolic extracts against pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 based on the result of Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bacteriocidal Concentration (MBC) of the most active fraction samples. Curry leaves were extracted by maceration method used 70% ethanol, then fractionated with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water solvents. Extract and fractions were tested for antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 using diffusion and dilution methods. The concentration of extracts and fractions used for the diffusion method were 20%, 10%, and 5%. The concentrations for the dilution method of the most active fraction were 20%; 10%; 5%; 2.5%; 1.25%; 0.625%; 0.312%; 0.156%; 0.078%; 0.039%. The most active fraction was tested for chemical content by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). The results showed was that the extract, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water fractions of curry leaf has antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. The most active sample was 20% ethyl acetate with inhibitory zone was 14.33 mm and Minimum Bacteriocidal Concentration (MBC) antibacterial activity ethyl acetate fraction is 1.25%. The results of the TLC identification showed that ethyl acetate fraction contained saponins, tannins, flavonoids and alkaloids. Key words : curry leaf, fraction, diffusion method, dilution method, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853
