Abstract

Basil leaves have properties as an antibacterial agent, one of which is against the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The alternative used for antibacterial treatment, namely basil leaves, is applied in lotion preparations. This study aims to make basil leaf extract lotion and test the physical properties and antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The test method in this study is extraction. Maseration using 70% ethanol, then thick extract of basil leaves formulated into lotion preparations with variations in extract concentrations of 2%, 4% and 8%. Antibacterial activity test for lotion of basil leaf extract was carried out by disc diffusion method. The results of the physical quality test were analyzed statistically by the Two Way Anova method and the results of the diffusion test were analyzed by the One Way Anova method. The results of this study are lotion with extract concentrations of 2%, 4% and 8% having different organoleptic properties, dispersion, adhesion, viscosity and pH where the best physical quality test is a lotion with an extract concentration of 4%. The three variations in extract concentrations have a inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, where at the highest concentration of extraction of 8% the resulting inhibitory power is greater.
