Abstract

Free radicals are molecular atoms that have high reactivity, which results in the oxidative stress of cells, which triggers premature aging (Wiwit et al. 2015) as an alternative in preventing the adverse effects of free radicals. One medicinal plant that has antioxidant properties is an ant nest species (Myrmecodia pendans Merr. & Perry.). Based on the results of the study, this plant contains important active compounds of polyphenols, flavonoids, which have antioxidant properties (Ariani, 2008), antioxidant levels with boiling method for 30 minutes IC50 value 30.30 ppm (Sri et al. 2014), the ant nest plant has the potential to be developed become pharmaceutical preparations. Based on these considerations, preparations are made in terms of comfort, namely oil in water type lotion (M/A) with a combination of cetyl alcohol emulgator and setostearyl alcohol. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of ant nest extracts made with lotion preparations. Ant nests were extracted by heating with low heat and the filtrate concentrated with the help of a freeze dryer. Lotion preparations used the cetyl alcohol emulgator and setostearyl alcohol with a ratio of 1.5; 0.5, 1; 1, 0.5; 1.5. Ants lotion preparations were observed for stability and physical quality test and calculated their antioxidant activity using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-pikrihidrazil) method. The data obtained were analyzed using One Way Anova. Observation of physical quality from days 0, 14 and 21 showed a decrease in viscosity, adhesion and increase in pH, dispersion. The antioxidant activity test found IC50 Formula 1, Formula 2 and Forrmula 3 values respectively 93.74 ppm, 83.29 ppm and 77.39 ppm and the best IC50 value was in Formula 3 at 77.39 ppm.
