Abstract
Work is a stage of life that must be journeyed by every human being in order to fulfill their needs for a living. However, someone may experience a lot of pressures at workplace which could develop into occupational burnout. This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and burnout experienced by lecturers of Universitas Setia Budi Surakarta. The hypothesis proposed is that there is a negative relationship between social support and burnout experienced by those lecturers. This study uses a quantitative method, whereas samples are taken using purposive sampling technique. 51 lecturers of Universitas Setia Budi Surakarta are selected as research subjects. The measurement instruments used in this study are social support scale and burnout inventory. Meanwhile, the method of data analysis is Karl Pearson’s product-moment correlation supported by SPSS 21.0 for windows release. The result of the analysis shows that the correlation coefficient is rx= -0,318 with p=0.041 (p <0.05). It proves that there is a significant negative relationship between social support and burnout, so the hypothesis proposed in this study is accepted. Keywords: Social Support, Burnout
