Abstract
Catechu flowers are one of the flowers that are used as natural antidiabetic because they contain chemical compounds including flavonoids, tannins, and steroids/terpenoids. This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extract of catechu flowers in reducing blood glucose levels, ability to inhibit liver necrosis and repair liver cells in alloxan-induced rats. This study used 30 rats divided into 6 groups, consisting of normal control, diabetes control, control of comparative drugs, extract of the leaves of catechu flowers doses of 125 mg/kg BW, 250 mg/kg BW, 500 mg/kg BW. All groups were given treatment for 14 days. Day 0, day 3, day 6, day 13 and day 20 were determined blood glucose levels, on day 21 rats were dissected and their liver organs were taken to make histopathological preparations. Measurement of blood glucose levels in rats using a glucometer (Easy Touch) and histopathology of the liver organs with Hematoxylin-Eosin staining. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Catechu flowers can reduce blood glucose levels in rats. The most effective dose of ethanol extract of Catechu flowers in reducing the state of hyperglycemia and was able to regenerate liver cells and reduced the percentage of necrosis in rat liver due to alloxan induction was a dose of 250 mg/KgBW. Keywords: alloxan, antidiabetic, blood glucose, catechu flowers, ethanol extract, liver histopathology.
