Abstract

Olive oil has benefits as an emolient, able to maintain moisture and smoothness of the skin. Flowers of rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) have benefits as antioxidants which play a role in maintaining cell damage due to excessive absorption of ultraviolet light. The use of rosella as a dye and olive oil as an emollient in the lipbalm formulation, because the flowers of rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) have red pigments from anthocyanin and olive oil can be used as emollients that function to maintain moisture. This study uses variations in cetyl alcohol as hardener or thickener. Cetyl alcohol is used in making lipbalm to influence the physical quality of the preparation of olive oil lipbalm and good rosella flower extract. Lipbalm preparations made 3 formulas with variations in the concentration of cetyl alcohol 15%, 18%, and 21%. The physical quality testing of preparations was carried out for 2 weeks including: organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, viscosity test, adhesion test, and spread test. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA statistics and if there were differences followed by Post Hoc test with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed that the concentration of cetyl alcohol produced a good lipbalm preparation and showed differences in the physical quality of lipbalm. The higher the concentration of cetyl alcohol, the greater the viscosity and adhesion, so that the spread of power will be smaller.
