Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) requires a long treatment time and uses more than one drug so that the potential for the occurrence of Drug Related Problems (DRPs). In geriatrics there is a decrease in the function of pancreatic β cells so that the prevalence increases. The purpose of this study was to determine patient characteristics, treatment features, and the incidence of DRPs. This type of research is a non-experimental study with retrospective data collection using a purposive sampling method, using a cross-sectional study design. The data taken in the form of medical record of geriatric patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus and data processing was carried out in a descriptive design. The results of most studies were characteristics of patients aged 46-55 years 19 events (45.2%), female gender 27 events (64.3%), length of stay 3 days 20 events (47.6%), description of antidiabetic treatment of Novorapid 34 incidents (47.9%). DRPs occurrence of drug interactions have 11 events (26.2%), low doses there are 24 events (12.7%), high doses there are 18 events (9.5%), indications need 0% medication, drugs without indication 0 %, and inaccurate use of the drug there were 9 events (4.8%).
