Abstract

Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L.) is a tropical ornamental plants, which are widely used in traditional medicine. Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L.) contain flavonoids, saponins, anthocyanins, polyphenols and alkaloids which possess antibacterial activity. The purpose of this study is to find out that hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L.) extract can be made with good physical quality gel preparations and antibacterial activity. Gel shoe flower extract prepared in the concentration of the extract formula 15% with 1% carbopol, carbopol extract 20% to 1.5%, and extract 25% to 2% carbopol, organoleptic test its physical properties, homogeneity, dispersive power, adhesiveness, viscosity and pH. Antibacterial activity test using the diffusion method. The results showed that formula three good gel preparation. Formula three with extract concentration of 25% and carbopol 2% has antibacterial activity with an average inhibition zone of 10.833 mm. Keywords: Hibiscus, Diffusion, Gel, Pseudomonas aeruginosa
