Abstract
Ethanol extract of bandotan leaves have antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus. Ethanol extract of bandotan leaves is formulated into emulgel form. This research aimed to find out whether or not the variation of carbopol 40 concentration on the infection healing activity and having qualified physical characteristics. Emulgel was prepared with carbopol concentrations 40 of 0.5%, 1.5% and 2.5%. Emulgel physical properties were tested by organoleptic, spreadability, adhesiveness, viscosity, and pH tests. The infection experiment was conducted using 5 rabbits and made of 5 location infected with Staphylococcus aureus bacteria on its back. The 5 infected area was applied emulgel of bandotan leaves ethanol extract 20% with carbopol 940 concentration of 0.5%; 1.50% and 2.5%, negative control and positive control. The result of test on emulgel’s physical characteristics and infection diameter measurement was analyzed using a two-way anova. The result of research showed that variation of carbopol 940 concentrations affects physical characteristics and infection healing time. The emulgel formula of bandotan leave ethanol extract with carbopol 940 1.5% had good physical characteristics and exert the infection healing effect most quickly compared with carbopol 940 0.5% and 2.5% at healing time of 10 days.
