Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) was a metabolic disease wherein elderly generally accompanied by complications. The emergence of complications can cause patient to engulf other drugs besides antidiabetic drug. The presence of polypharmacy has the potential for drug interactions. It is not yet known the relationship between drug interactions and patient outcomes of DM therapy. The purpose this study was to determine the drug profile use, the incidence of drug interactions, and relationship between interactions with outcomes therapy. This study was observative with quota sampling method, using crosssectional design retrospectively by solicit at medical record data of type 2 DM inpatients at Karanganyar Regional Public Hospital in 2018. Data analyzed descriptive presented in tables and percentages, analytically using Chi-Square Test to find out relationships between the incidence of interaction with outcome therapy. Results of this study were 67 inpatients met the inclusion and exclusion criteria consisting of 40 female patients (59.7%), and 27 male patients (40.3%). From 67 type 2 DM inpatients 57 patients among them (85.1%) had drug interactions with 42 event was major interactions (15.5%), moderate interaction was 183 events (67.5%), and 46 minor interactions (17.0%). The most common interaction mechanism was pharmacodynamics of 184 events (67.9%). The results analysis found there was no relationship between the incidence of interaction with outcome therapy (p = 0.125).
