Abstract

Hemoglobin is the main component in red blood cells, the conjugated protein functioned as oxygen and carbon dioxide transportation which is rich of iron. The examination of hemoglobin level is beneficial for anemia diagnose. Anemia in female teenager is a common health problem in developing countries, including Indonesia. In female teenager anemia commonly caused by the lack of iron, protein, vitamin, mineral and malnutrition. In addition, female teenagers also experience menstruation causing bleeding and iron deficiency that lead to the decrease of hemoglobin level in blood. The aim of the study is to determine the description of hemoglobin level in female teenage students in an Islamic Boarding School. The research by applying Cyanmethemoglobin examination method was conducted by collecting 40 samples of blood in Budi Utomo Islamic Boarding School. Research Methodology applied in the study is purposive sampling based on a consideration by setting inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study of the description of Hemoglobin level on 40 female teenage students in Budi Utomo Islamic Boarding School blood samples indicated that 27 female teenager (67%,) have normal hemoglobin level, while 13 female teenage students (33%) have low hemoglobin level. Female teenager with hemoglobin level lower than normal should eat regularly and consume balance nutrition and high nutrient food, as well as use time to rest wisely.
