Abstract
Candidiasis is a fungal infection that most often occurs in humans. Candida albicans infection in the oral cavity appears as white patches on the gingiva, tongue, and oral mucous membranes which when scraped leaves a red, bleeding surface. Salam leaf have antifungal activity. The purpose of this study was to formulate a mouthwash from salam leaf extract has antifungal activity against the fungi Candida albicans. The extract was obtained by remaseration using 70% ethanol solvent. Mouthwash is made in three formulas with extract concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 10%. Physical quality tests include organoleptic, pH, viscosity, and stability tests with room temperature. Antifungal activity testing using the disk diffusion method. Result data in the form of inhibitory zone diameters were tested statistically with SPSS One Way ANOVA method, Tukey HSD with degree trust > 0,05. The results showed that all of the salam leaf extract mouthwash formulations had good physical quality and stability for up to 21 days. The difference in extract concentration affects the antifungal activity. Formulations with extract concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 10% respectively produced inhibition zones of 10.03 ± 0.78 mm, 13.8 ± 0.49 mm, 15.56 ± 0.28 mm. Mouthwash formula with an extract concentration of 5% has been active in inhibiting fungal growth. Keywords: Mouthwash, Syzigium polyantum (Wight) Walp.), Candida albicans, Diffusion
