Abstract

This research aimed to find out the relationship between workload and burnout in the nurses of policlinic and emergency units in PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Surakarta. The subject of research was the nurses in policlinic and emergency units aged 20-50 years old working in PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Surakarta, consisting of 61 nurses. This research employed two measuring instruments: burnout scale and workload scale. The hypothesis proposed was that there was a positive relationship between workload and burnout. This research employed quantitative method with total sampling technique. The method of analyzing data used was Karl Pearson’s Product Moment correlation with SPSS 23.0 for windows release help. The result of data analysis showed coefficient correlation rxy = 0.345 with p = 0.000 (p < 0.01). It proved that there was a significant positive relationship between workload and burnout of nurses, so that the hypothesis proposed in this research was supported.
