Abstract
SAHUBURUA, AJ., 2019, THE EFFECT OF ETHANOL EXTRACT OF ARECA NUT FLOWER (Areca cathecu L.) ON BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS AND PANCREATIC HISTOPTHOLOGY IN DIABETIC RATS INDUCED BY ALLOXAN, THESIS, THE FACULTY OF PHARMACY, SETIA BUDI UNIVERSITY, SURAKARTA. Areca nut flower is one of the plants that is used as an antidiabetic because it contains chemical compounds including flavonoids, tannins, saponins and steroids / terpenoids. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ethanol extract of areca nut flowers on decreasing blood sugar levels and the ability to repair pancreatic β cells in alloxan induced rats. This study used 30 rats divided into 6 groups including: normal, negative, positive control, extract dose of 125 mg / kg body weight, 250 mg / kg body weight and 500 mg / kg body weight. Rats induced by alloxan at a dose of 150 mg / kgBW i.p after measuring blood sugar levels (T0). On the 6th day DM indicated (T1). Rats were given p.o test preparation for 14 days and then measured sugar content on day 13 (T2) and day 20 (T4), on day 21 the rats were surgically removed and their organs were taken for histopathological testing. Analysis of the results using statistical methods with parameters measuring the weight, blood sugar level and diameter of the pancreas. The results of the study and statistical analysis showed that the extract group had an effect on decreasing blood sugar levels, increasing rat body weight and increasing the diameter of the Langerhans pancreatic β cell. The effective dose of areca nut ethanol extract is 250 mg / KgBB. Key word : Areca nut flower, alloxan, antidiabetic, pancreatic histopathology
