Abstract
Tea is one of the beverages that is familiar with our society. Tanin in tea is a compound that can inhibit the absorption of iron so that it can lead to reduced production of hemoglobin and decrease in blood volume of erythrocytes at risk of iron anemia anemia. This study aims to determine the levels of hemoglobin in tea drinkers. This research uses an observational analytic research with cross-sectional method. Sampling was done by purposive sampling as many as 30 blood samples. The research conducted as many as 30 samples showed that students who have normal hemoglobin level is 5 students (16.67%). While students who have less than normal hemoglobin level as many as 25 students (83.33%). The results showed that a total of 5 students (16.67%) who drank tea before and after meals had normal hemoglobin levels. Students who drank tea at meal time resulted in low hemoglobin level of 20 students (66.66%). In the category of drinking tea as much as 1 glass obtained normal hemoglobin level as much as 6 students (20%), while less than normal hemoglobin level of 3 students (10%). However, most respondents prefer to drink tea as much as 2-3 glasses as many as 13 students (43.33%). Respondents with the most tea drink that is ≥ 4 glass is done by 8 students (26,67%). It is advisable for tea drinkers to reduce their consumption of tea and can consume iron supplements so that iron requirements are met. Keyword : Tea, Hemoglobin, Anemia
