Abstract

Motivation for recovery is a patient’s self-motivation which drives himself or herself to take action which directs to a treatment to recover and freed from a sickness in order to be safe, both psychically and physically. Medication for patients with pulmonary tuberculosis BTA (+) using DOTS system takes a long period of time, from 6 to 9 months, and patient is required to take anti-tuberculosis drugs (ATD) and mucus (sputum) laboratory test regularly. Hence, motivation to recover from sickness and compliance level of patients to have treatments with DOTS system affect the success of medication. This study aims at investigating the relationship between motivation for recovery and compliance level to take medication with DOTS system of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis BTA (+) in the Pulmonary Hospital of Dr, Ario Wirawan in Salatiga. Total sampling technique was used to gather samples which included 80 patients of pulmonary tuberculosis BTA (+) having treatments in the Pulmonary Hospital of Dr. Ario Wirawan in Salatiga. Data were collected using questionnaires and later analyzed using Pearson’s product-moment correlation test. The research results indicate correlating coefficient of 0.672 with p = 0.000 (p < 0.01) between the variable of motivation to recover and compliance level to take treatments with DOTS system. Thus, there is a positive relationship with strong correlation category. The higher the motivation to recover is, the higher the obedience level to take medication with DOTS system will be. The average respondents in this research have medium level motivation to recover (68.8%) and comply to take medication (75.0%). Keywords: Motivation for recovery, compliance level, medication with DOTS system, pulmonary tuberculosis BTA (+).
