Abstract

Antioxidants are compounds or substances that inhibit, delay, prevent or slow down oxidation reactions even in small concentrations. Brown seaweed (Sargassum polycystum) can be used as an antioxidant because it contains phenols. The purpose of this research is to know that brown seaweed can be made into a stable cream preparation with good stability, and to determine the effectiveness of brown seaweed as an antioxidant. Brown seaweed extract was prepared by maceration method. The cream making of brown seaweed extract was divided into 3 concentrations, namely 2.5%, 5%, and 10%. Antioxidant activity testing was carried out using the DPPH method and a literature study of physical quality testing: organoleptic, dispersion, adhesion, viscosity, pH, and homogeneity. The results of the research and literature studies obtained indicate that brown seaweed extract can be made into a preparation and has antioxidant activity.
