Abstract

Drinking tea has become a culture to the world population. In addition to water, tea is the beverage most consumed by humans. Tea is known to inhibit the absorption of iron originating from non heme (non-hemeiron). Improper way of tea consumption will cause a negative impact, especially anemia. Drinking tea at the same time with meal can inhibit Fe absorption so it will affect hemoglobin levels. Iron is needed for hemoglobin production, so that the iron anemia will cause the formation of red blood cells are smaller and lower hemoglobin content. Referral cut-off point men aged ≥15 years were considered anemic when Hb <13.0 g/dl and women aged 15-49 are anemic when Hb <12.0 g/dl. This study aims to determine the relationship between tea drinking habits with hemoglobin levels towards Setia Budi University students. This study uses an observational analytic research design with cross sectional method. The population in this study were students of the University of Setia Budi who have the habit of drinking tea. The number of samples in this study was 36 samples with purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was performed by Spearman Correlation test. The results with Spearman Correlation test obtained probability value of 0.001 (p <0.05) and the value of 0.60 with Correlation Coefficient, so it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between drinking tea with hemoglobin levels towards Setia Budi University students with relationship direction positive relationship with strong.
