Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus caused skin infections characterized by redness, swelling, pain, and the appearance of pus. The ethanolic extract of Centella asiatica leaf has activity as a wound healing infection cause by Staphylococcus aureus. Centella asiatica leaf have been widely used by the public and have been shown to have antibacterial activity. The bioactive components of Centella asiatica that function as antibacterial are flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. This study aims to determine and prove the effect of Centella asiatica leaf ethanol extract and the effective concentration in healing wound infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This study used male New Zealand white rabbits induced by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at 5 out of 6 locations. The treatment was given by applying the ethanol extract of Centella asiatica leaf at 3 locations with a concentration of 0.5%, 1.5%, and 3%, respectively. While the other 3 locations were each given negative control in the form of 2% Na-CMC, positive control with 0,1% clindamycin phosphate gel, and normal control with no treatment. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Centella asiatica leaf had activity as a wound healer for infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The concentration of 3% Centella asiatica leaf ethanol extract was the most effective in providing wound healing effect due to Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with an average diameter of 15.4 mm with an infection healing time of 9 days.
