Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease and usually people will get tired of using synthetic drugs, therefore the use of natural ingredients can suppress fewer side effects. Avocado peel has flavonoid compounds, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, carotenoids, total phenolics and anthocyanins. This study aims to determine whether avocado peel can be used to treat hyperglycemia and an effective dose for lowering blood glucose levels. The extraction method is maceration with 70% ethanol. Methods of measuring blood glucose levels with a glucometer and Glucose strip DR. The test animals consisted of 25 mice which were divided into 5 treatment groups, namely negative control CMC 0.5%, positive Glibenclamide 5 mg/kgBW and ethanol extract of avocado skin with a dose variation of 4.9 mg/20g BW mice, 9.8 mg/20g BW in mice and 19.6 mg/20g BW in mice. Data analysis used One Way ANOVA statistical analysis. The results showed that avocado peel extract can reduce blood glucose levels. The most effective dose of avocado peel extract was 19.6 mg/20g BW, mice did not show a significant difference with the positive control.
