Abstract

An incision wound is a damage that occurs to skin tissue due to the trauma of sharp objects such as knives, razor blades. Normal wound healing can be helped by treatment both chemically and naturally. Sunflower seed oil (Helianthus annuus L.) is known to have a wound healing effect, and emulgel is one of the topical preparations suitable for cut wounds. This study aims to evaluate the formulation of physical quality and stability of sunflower seed oil emulgel and find out the effective concentration of sunflower seed oil that can heal the wound of anesthetic in New Zealand rabbits. Sunflower seed oil is made emulgel 3 variations of concentration that is 5; 10; and 15%. Emulgel preparations are tested for physical quality and stability. Test of emulgel anti-inflammatory activity as wound healing is done by applying emulgel to the back of an injured rabbit. Physical quality test data and emulgel activity test of sunflower seed oil were analyzed by one way anova to find out the differences between formulas, then continued paired t test. The results of physical quality and stability tests state that all formulas meet good requirements, and emulgel anti-inflammatory activity tests state that all formulas have an activity of curing wounds. Emulgels with a 5% concentration of sunflower seed oil show the most effective wound healing effect equivalent to positive control. Keywords: sunflower seed oil, emulgel, incision wound
