Abstract

Peel-off gel mask is one of the most practical masks, because after drying the mask can be removed immediately without the need to rinse. Gel mask formulation was made with the gelling agent Hidroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulosa (HPMC) and Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA). The purpose of this study is to review the literature and find out the best concentration of HPMC and PVA in the preparation of peel-off gel masks. This literature review was conducted using an electronic database, Google Scholar. This research was conducted by collecting data from 10 national journals which discussed the preparation of peel-off gel masks with varying concentrations of HPMC with a susceptibility of 1% - 5% and PVA with susceptibility of 8% -14% with the function of the same active ingredient as antioxidants. The data obtained is then resumed and developed into scientific stories that were consistented with the objectives and formulation of the research problem. Based on a literature review conducted using the tertiary study method, gel preparations with a variation of 1% HPMC concentration and 10% PVA showed stable results at an average of 4 weeks storage on physical quality test including organoleptic test, homogeneity test, dispersion test, adhesion test, pH test and viscosity test. Keywords: Peel-off gel maske preparations, HPMC, PVA, gelling agents, concentration variations.
