Abstract

Serum is an preparation with the active substance of high concentration and low viscosity, which delivers a thin film of the active ingredient on the surface of the skin. A serum cosmetic dosage can have benefits as a brightening, anti-aging, moisturizing, anti-acne dependent ingredient used. Niacinamide can be used to improve the water content of horn layers, fine-grained, anti-wrinkle, antioxidant, reduce hyperpigmentation, and antiacne. The purpose of this research to be about whether Niacinamide can be made serum gel, to know the effect of variations of Carbopol 940, to find out which formulas have the best physical properties and stability. In this researched making using the method serum gel of making gel preparations, which distinguishes is the consistency of serum gels that are not too viscous. In this study conducted physical quality test, namely: organoleptic test, homogenity test, spread power test, adhesion test, viscosity test and PH test. Data is analyzed in statistics with Kolmogorov test-Smirnov, ANOVA one way, post hoc test with status of 95% trust. The results of this study stated that niacinamide can be made in serum gel. The higher the concentration of carbopol 940 can affect the test of the spreadability decreases, adhesion becomes increased, viscosity increases, and pH also rises. The best formula for serum gel is formula II, because it has an easy consistency in its application, the most preferred hedonic test. Keywords: Serum, Gel, Niacinamide, Carbopol 940
