Abstract

The prevalence of hypertension increases with increasing age, therefore geriatric patients with hypertension need more attention in their treatment. The incidence of hypertension in geriatric age (age ≥ 60 years) is still high at 65.4%. This study was conducted to determine the percentage of drug interactions, the types of drugs that cause a lot of interaction, drug interaction mechanisms that can cause interaction in the treatment of hypertensive patients in Widodo Ngawi Hospital Inpatient Installation in 2017. This research is a non-experimental descriptive study with retrospective data collection. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria found 42 hypertensive patients who met the criteria. Applications and books that are used to see the type of interaction based on the severity of the interaction are minor, moderate and major. The interaction mechanism is seen based on the Lexicom and Drug Interaction Facts ™ Facts and Compilation application by David S. Tatro. The results showed that from a total of 42 hypertensive patients there were 25 patients (59.52%) who experienced drug interactions and 17 patients (40.48%) did not experience drug interactions. Minor interactions were 18 events (40.91%), moderate interactions were 24 events (53.3%) and major interactions were 2 events (4.54%). The most widely used drug causing the interaction is the drug amlodipine with metamizole. The interaction mechanism found was the mechanism of pharmacokinetics as many as 8 events (38.09%), pharmacodynamic interactions of 9 events (42.86%) and unknown mechanism of 4 events (19.05%).
