Abstract
Laurel leaves (Syzygium polyanthum) and tamarind (Tamarindus indica L) are Indonesian plants that are used as ingredients for traditional medicine and have antibacterial properties. The chemical properties of laurel and tamarind leaves are flavonoid, tannin, saponin and alkaloid. The study aims at identifying antibacterial combination of laurel and tamarind with Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The research phase begins with plant diffusion method, sample retrieval, powdered manufacture, extraction of meseration methods using 70% solders, extracting ethanol free test, extracting chemical compound identification and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, bacterial authentication, suspension and antibacterial activity testing using disk diffusion methods. The combination of extract used is 2:1, 1:2, and 1:1. The extract of laurel and tamarind leaves were positive free of ethanol and contained flavonoids, tannin, saponin, alkaloids. The result of an identifying of the Staphylococcus aureus ATCC bacteria 25923 in Gram pigmentation shows a positive Gram bacterium that is spherical in clusters like grapes and has a purple cell. Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 to VJA media is able to ferment mannitol, positive katalase and coagulase. The combination of laurel and tamarind leaves from Java 2:1, 1:2, and 1:1 has a resistance to the growth of the Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 by forming an average diameter of the 21.50 resistance zone; 19.58; And 19.08 mm. The most effective combination of 2:1 laurel leaves and tamarind leaves impedes the growth of the Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923.
