Abstract

Lead is a poison that can affect human health and is cumulative. Excess lead exposure can come from the fumes resulting from the combustion of engine fuels that are discharged by motorized vehicles which can damage the respiratory system, nerves and poison the blood of the mechanics of motorized vehicle repair shops. Lead can inhibit enzymes that work in the heme biosynthesis process, causing the process of heme formation to be reduced, and heme cannot bind to globin, resulting in a decrease in hemoglobin levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of hemoglobin examination on motor vehicle mechanics in Jebres District, Surakarta City. This study is a descriptive study, collecting data by examining hemoglobin levels in June 2021 with venous blood specimens, which was carried out using the cyanmethemoglobin method. The sampling technique used was purposive technique. The subjects of the study were motor vehicle repair shop mechanics totaling 30 people. Data collection on the characteristics of the subjects used a questionnaire. The data obtained are displayed descriptively. Based on the hemoglobin examination that has been carried out, it can be seen that 20 respondents (67%) found normal hemoglobin levels while 10 respondents (33%).
