Abstract

Diuretics are drugs that increase the rate at which urine is produced and excreted. The content of compounds in watermelon that is thought to have a diuretic effect is the flavonoid. Watermelon have a lot of potassium, citrulline, lycopene, and water which causes vasodilation and relaxes blood vessels. The purpose of this study was to examine the diuretic effect and find effective dose in effervescent tablet preparations that met the physical quality of the tablet. This study used three formulas with different doses of 500, 100 and 200 mg of watermelon rind extract. Tablets were made by wet granulation method and weighed 1500 mg. The diuretic effect test was divided into 5 test groups, positive control of furosemide 3.654 mg/kgBB, negative control of CMC-Na 0,5% and administration of effervescent tablets of watermelon rind extract at 17,5 mg/kgBB, group of effervescent tablets with watermelon rind extract at 35 mg. /kgBB, and the effervescent tablet group with watermelon rind extract at a dose of 70 mg/kgBB. The results showed the effervescent tablet of watermelon rind extract had activity as a diuretic which was tested in vivo on wistar strain white rats. An effective formula with good physical quality and have diuretic effect equal to control is formula II with the least amount of extract.
