Abstract
Skin infections can be caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera Lam.) contain flavonoid compounds that can have an antibacterial effect. Serum preparations have the advantage of being easily absorbed and applied to infected skin. This study aims to formulate Moringa leaf extract into serum preparations and test its antibacterial activity. Moringa leaf extraction using maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The extract was formulated into a serum using the gelling agent carbopol 940 of 0.75% with variations in the extract concentration of 5%, 10%, and 15%. Stability testing using the cycling test method. Antibacterial testing was carried out in vitro, the method used was agar diffusion by means of wells and the diameter of the resulting inhibition zone was measured, then analyzed by Saphiro-Wilk. The results of this study Moringa leaf extract can be made serum with various concentrations has good and stable physical quality. Evaluation of the preparations included examination of organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, and spreadability. Moringa leaf extract serum with concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15% had inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 of 14.27 ± 0.25, 15.93 ± 0.31, and 17.70 ± 0.26. The most effective concentration is the concentration of 15% because it has the greatest inhibitory power.
