Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease, occurs due to increased blood glu cose when insulin secretion decreases, causing excessive blood levels and free rad icals are formed into reactive oxygen, therefore it is necessary to pay attention to t he treatment of diabetes with the use of alternative drugs, one of which is star fruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L). This study was to prove the efficacy of starfruit leaf extract to reduce blood glucose in mice fed. 25 male mice were divided into 5 groups. Group I (CMC Na negative 0.5% group); group II (metformin positive control); group III (starfruit extract dose 250 mg/kg BW mice); group IV (starfruit extract at a dose of 500 mg/kg BW of mice); and group V (starfruit extract dose 750 mg/kg BW mice). given treatment for 44 days with the induction of high-fat, fructose and alloxan feed. Research data on reducing blood glucose in mice with insulin resistance were analyzed by the Kruskal-Wallis method and continued by Mann Whitney. The results showed that the star fruit extract can lower blood glucose. Effective dose lowers blood glucose at a dose of 500 mg/Kg BB squeak p (0.05) Key words : Antidiabetic, insulin resistance, belimbing wuluh leaf (Averrhoa bilimbi L.)
