Abstract

Sun exposure can cause damage to the skin. Damage to the skin can be avoided by using preparations such as sunscreen. One of the plants that have properties as sunscreen is. pomegranate peel water extract (Punica granatum L.) This study aims to determine the formulation and activity test of the gel preparation of pomegranate peel water extract as a sunscreen by using various concentrations of carbopol 940. This study used 4 different formulas, namely F1, F2, F3, and F4 using carbopol 940 concentrations, respectively, namely: 0.5%, 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%, and used the respective extract concentrations 0,2%. Air extraction was carried out using the infundation method, and for the SPF value test, UV-Vis spectrophotometry and Mansur's calculations were used. The results showed that the preparation of pomegranate peel extract gel using variations in the concentration of carbopol 940 had good physical quality and quality. Carbopol concentration affects sunscreen activity. The SPF values obtained from each formula are (4.18), (16.97), (19.09), and (27.91). The SPF value after the test using the cycling test decreased, this was due to the difference in temperature during the test which made the preparation unstable.
