Abstract

Celery herb (Apium graveolens L) is a plant that is often used as an additive in cooking because it has a distinctive aroma and contains phytosterols which are used as anticholesterol. Celeryherb extract has activity as an anticholesterol at a dose of 125 mg/kg BW rats. This study aims to determine cholesterol activity and the activity between polar, semi-polar, and non-polar fractions of celery (Apium graveolens L) in male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) as anticholesterol. This research is an experimental research. The cholesterol activity test used 25 male white rats which were divided into 5 groups, namely the 0.5% Na CMC group, simvastatin group, polar fraction, semi-polar fraction, and non-polar fraction. Data collection of cholesterol contained in the blood of test animals was carried out by taking blood through the eye or Retroorbility Plexus which was then checked for cholesterol using CHOD-PAP enzymatic. The doses of nonpolar, semi-polar, and polar fractions were given, respectively, namely 4.21mg/kgBW, 37.5mg/kgBW, and 75 mg/kgBW. The results of this study showed that the polar fraction of celery extract had better anticholesterol activity against male white rats than the non-polar and semi-polar fractions.
