Abstract
Antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections and the use of antibiotics for bacterial infections have experienced resistance due to irrational use. The jeringau and belimbing wuluh plants contain chemical compounds of flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, essential oils, tannins, terpenoids and steroids that have antibacterial activity. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the combination of ethanol extract of jeringau rhizome and belimbing wuluh leaves and to see the effect of the combination against the bacteria Staphylococus aureus ATCC 25923. This research used maceration method with 96% ethanol as solvent. Combination of jeringau rhizome extract using a concentration of 25% and starfruit leaf extract using a concentration of 10%. The concentration variations used were (1:1), (1:2), and (2:1). Antibacterial activity test using dilution method, disc diffusion and to determine the effect of the combination test using paper tape. The results showed that the combination of ethanol extract of jeringau rhizome and belimbing wuluh leaves had antibacterial activity against Staphylococus aureus ATCC 25923. The combination of extracts in a 2:1 ratio had the most effective activity with an average inhibition zone diameter of 23.5 mm. The combination of jeringau rhizome extract and belimbing wuluh leaves had a synergistic effect on Staphylococus aureus ATCC 25923.
