Abstract

Moringa leaves known as antibacterial due to saponins, flavonoids, and tannins. Staphylococcus aureus can cause infection of skin lesions. The purpose of research was to determine the effect of variations in serum glycerin concentration of Moringa leaf extract on physical and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The extraction method is maceration. Moringa leaf extract was made to serum with glycerin concentration 5%; 7,5%; 10%. All preparations tested for viscosity, pH, homogeneity, dispersion, and continued with the antibacterial activity test by diffusion method against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. All data were tested using SPSS statistics. The results showed variations glycerin affects the increasing viscosity and decrease in spreadability. Also, the stability test of freeze thaw method were not stable during storage. Good antibacterial activity in formulas 1 and 2 and a decrease in formula 3 with each inhibition zone diameter of 18.1 m; 18.36 mm; 16.25 mm Keywords: Moringa leaves, glycerin, serum, Staphylococcus aureus.
