Abstract

The kenikir plant (Cosmos caudatus Kunth), a plant that grows abundantly in Indonesia, has antioxidant properties that can be used to prevent tissue damage and stimulate the wound healing process, such as flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and tannins. From the results of previous studies at a good concentration in wound healing was 15% concentration. The objective of this study was to determine from physical quality test results whether kenikir leaf extract can be processed into an emulgel dosage form and meet the standards, and the level of effectiveness of a kenikir leaf extract emulgel formulation (Cosmos caudatus Kunth) to accelerate the healing of incision wound on the rabbit back skin (Oryctolagus cuniculus). The research method carried out involved the formulation of extracts by Simplicia maceration of kenikir leaf using 96% ethanol, followed by the formation of an emulgel formulation to obtain the results. In testing the physical quality of the emulgel formulations, sensory tests, homogeneity tests, viscosity tests, pH tests, spreadability tests, adhesion tests and stability tests were performed. Five male rabbits were then used for 5 treatments by testing the effectiveness of kenikir leaf emulgel formulations on wound healing speed, formulation 1 (7.5 % ), Formulation 2 (15 %), formula 3 (22.5%), negative control (using emulgel base without kenikir leaf extract) and positive control Betadine Ointment 10%.The results of the incision wound healing test were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA method using the SPSS (Statistical Products and Services Solutions) program. The results showed that all emulgel formulations had good physical quality and stability, and showed activity in the healing of incision wound on the rabbit back skin. Effectiveness testing results for Wound Healing Formulation 3 were the most effective, with a similar percentage reduction in wound length on the rabbit back skin to the positive control.
