Abstract
Red andong leaf is one of the leaves that is used as a natural antihyperglycemic because it contains compounds which include flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and steroids. The purpose of this study was to determine the antihyperglycemic activity and the effective dose of red andong leaf ethanol extract against alloxaninduced mice. Extraction using maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent. This study used 6 treatment groups with 5 mice each: group 1 (normal control), group 2 (diabetes) given CMC Na 0.5%, group 3 (positive control) given glibenclamide 0.013 mg/20g BW. mice, and groups 4-6 as the test group with a dose of 1.4 mg; 2.8 mg; 5.6 mg/20g BW mice. 16 hours before the treatment, all mice were fasted, alloxan induction was done intraperitoneally on day 0. The test preparation was given orally for 14 days. Parameters observed were increased body weight, decreased blood glucose levels of mice, weight of feed, volume of drinking water and volume of urine of mice. The results showed that the red andong red leaf ethanol extract had the ability to reduce blood glucose levels in mice, increase body weight, decrease drinking water volume, urine volume and feed weight with an effective dose of 2.8mg/20gBB mice.
