Abstract

Swift’s Nest (Aerodramus fuchipagus) is the one source of Indonesia’s Biological natural resource. One of the benefits that are recognized by the public is its tonic effect (increase endurance/overcomes fatigue). Lozenges are tablets that contain one or more medicinal ingredients, are usually flavored, and dissolve slowly in the mouth. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of activity on swift’s nest lozenges and to determine the physical quality, as well as the effective dose of swift’s nest lozenges which have a tonic effect. Three formulations containing 100, 200 and 300 mg of active substance were used in this study. Pellets were prepared by wet granulation and compression molding with an average weight of 1000 mg. Physical examination parameters of the tablets include sensory evaluation, weight uniformity, friability, hardness, and a tonic activity test in white male mice. Analysis of the results using SPSS version 24 with the one-way ANOVA method to determine significant differences between treatment groups in the swimming resistance parameters of each treatment group. The results showed that swallow's nest could be formulated into lozenges and had tonic activity which was tested in vivo on male white mice. The formula that has a tonic effect that is close to the positive control is formula III with a dose of 300 mg/kg body weight in mice. The higher the swallow's nest dose used, the greater the tonic activity. Keywords: Formulation, Swift’s Nest, tonic, lozenges.
