Abstract

Banana hump contain flavonoids as a decrease in blood glucose and prevent damage due to oxidative stress. This study aims to determine the ethanolic extract of bonggol kepok (Musa paradisca L.) has antidiabetic activity in reducing blood glucose levels and in improving pancreatic histopathology in alloxan-induced rats. This study used 6 groups of male wistar rats. Group I (ordinary control); group II (negative control); group III (positive control); group IV (extract of kepok banana hump at a dose of 50 mg/kg bw); group V (kepok banana hump extract dose of 100 mg/kg bw) and group VI (kepok banana hump extract dose 200 mg/kg bw). After 18 days of treatment for decreasing blood glucose levels and pancreatic histopathology in rat islet cells of Langerhans, The results of this study indicate that the kepok banana hump extract has the activity of lowering blood glucose levels and improving the histopathology of the pancreas organ of rats. The most effective dose is the kepok banana hump extract at a dose of 200 mg/kg bw where there is a decrease in blood glucose levels.
