Abstract

Sunlight contains UVB rays and free radicals that cause damage in the body due to the induction of molecules that are harmful to the skin. Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L) extract contains flavonoid compounds, tannins, and saponins that are useful as sunscreens and antioxidants. This study aims to determine the SPF value and antioxidant activity as well as the content of compounds contained in asparagus extract. Asparagus extract was obtained from dried asparagus simplicia macerated with 96% ethanol solvent by maceration method. Antioxidant test was carried out using the DPPH method (1,1 Diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl). The sunscreen test was carried out by reading the UVB wavelength (290-320). The determination of the SPF value was made with a concentration variant of 1%; 1.5%; 2%. The asparagus extract was then determined the SPF value and antioxidant activity. Each concentration was dissolved with ethanol pa and the absorbance was read on a UV-VIS Spectrophotometer and then the spf value and IC50 value were calculated. The data obtained were analyzed by SPSS. The results showed that asparagus extract (Asparagus officinalis L) had activity as a sunscreen with SPF values of 55.57; 73.37; 87,. Asparagus extract is categorized as ultra. The antioxidant activity of the extract was 112.48ppm and quercetin 6.03ppm. Keywords: sunscreen, SPF, antioxidant, asparagus
