Abstract
Depression is a disease caused by a decrease in the neurotransmitters norepinephrine (NE), serotonin (5HT), and dopamine (DA) in the brain. Manganese leaf extract (Mangifera indica L.) contains chemical compounds quercetin and mangiferin which can be used in alternative depression treatments to reduce the side effects of chemical drugs. The purpose of this study was to determine the antidepressant activity and effective dose of mango leaf extract (Mangifera indica L.). Antidepressant carried out with 3 variations in the dose of mango leaf extract, namely 50; 100; and 200 mg/kg bw in mice that have been adapted and induced depression by fasting and immersion for 7 days with a duration of 5-10 minutes every day. The positive used was amitriptilline and the negative control used was CMC Na 0.5%. After oral administration, the mice were swam using the forced swimming test method and then the immobility time was observed. The immobility time data obtained were analyzed using the SPSS application. The results showed that the longan peel extract dose of 50; 100; and 200 mg/kg BW can reduce depression in white male Swiss Webster mice by looking at the immobility time parameter of the mice. The effective dose in reducing depression in mice is a dose of 50mg/kg BW. Key words : antidepressant, Mangifera indica L., forced swimming test, immobility time
