Abstract

Cuts are wounds caused by incisions from sharp objects. Guava leaves can be used as an alternative wound-healing process because they contain flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, and tannins, stimulating new cells in wound healing. This study used xanthan gum and stearic acid as emulsifiers with varying concentrations of cream preparations of guava leaf ethanol extract, which aims to determine the physical quality and healing of cuts in white rats. The ethanol extract of guava leaves was obtained by maceration using 70% ethanol and then formulated with varying concentrations of xanthan gum and stearic acid in each formula, F1 (0%, 4%), F2 (1%, 3%), F3 (2%, 2%). %), F4 (4%, 0%) with 5% active substance. Evaluation of cream preparations included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, cream type, spreadability, adhesion, and wound healing activity in white rats. The results showed that variations in the concentrations of xanthan gum and stearic acid affected cuts' physical quality and healing activity. Wound healing effects can be seen from the average percentage of healing days obtained. F1 activity results recovered on day 11, F2 on day 9, F3 on day 10, and F4 on day 12. Statistical test results showed F2 had healing activity comparable to the positive control. Keywords: Guava leaves (Psidium guajava L.), Cream formulation, Cut wounds, Cut diameter.
