Abstract
Antioxidants are needed in the body to overcome oxidative stress. watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) and salam (Syzygium polyanthum) plants contain flavonoids, phenolic and alkaloid compounds as antioxidants. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of a combination of Watermelon Peel extract (Citrullus lanatus) and salam leaf (Syzygium polyanthum) which is formulated in cream preparations with variations of Tween 80 and Span 80 emulsifiers in vitro using the DPPH method. This study used watermelon skin (Citrullus lanatus) and salam leaf (Syzygium polyanthum) extracts which were macerated with 70% ethanol. Cream preparations were made with variations of Tween 80 with a concentration of 3%, 4%, 5% and Span 80 with a concentration of 7%, 6%, 5%. The results of the study were analyzed using the SPSS method. The combination cream of ethanol extract of watermelon skin and salam leaves which had the best antioxidant activity was produced from formula 3 with an IC50 of 106.79 ppm which was close to the positive control preparation of 75.34 ppm. Formula 3 has good physical quality and is stable with concentrations of Tween 80 5% and San 80 5%.
