Abstract
Naringenin is one of the flavanone aglycone compounds with the main activity as an antioxidant. However, it has poor water solubility (46 ± 6 g/mL) and low bioavailability (5.81%), causing its therapeutic effect to be inhibited. Nanoparticles with the ionic gelation method are one way to increase bioavailability and can improve a better therapeutic effect. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of nanoparticles made from Naringenin when the concentrations of chitosan and NaTPP were different. Naringenin was made in the form of nanoparticles using the ionic gelation method with variations in the concentration of chitosan polymer: NaTPP, namely 0,04 : 0,01% (F1), 0,1 : 0,02% (F2), dan 0,2 : 0,04% (F3). The characterization of nanoparticles included determining the size, zeta potential, and % encapsulation efficiency, which were read using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Measurement of IC50 value for antioxidant test using the DPPH method (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryhidrazyl) using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 516 nm. The antioxidant test results were analyzed statistically using one-way ANOVA on the SPSS®21 program. The best formula is F3 (0,2 : 0,04%) with the result of % encapsulation efficiency of 64,83%. The Naringenin nanoparticle characterization test results for particle size were 16.13 ± 0.165 nm, polydispersity index 0.283 ± 0.004 and zeta potential -8.98 ± 0.835. The antioxidant test results by determining the IC50 value of Naringenin F3 nanoparticles showed no potential, for pure Naringenin isolate it was 19.8133 ± 0.163 ppm and for the comparator, namely vitamin C, it was 12.155 ± 0.109 ppm.
