Abstract

Body lotion is a cosmetic preparation that is widely used to brighten the skin. Accidental exposure to lead (Pb) can occur due to contamination by air, dust, and water during cosmetic manufacturing. Lead (Pb) can be added in cosmetic preparations intentionally that serve as pigments or dyestuffs. The color produced by lead (Pb) on the body lotion can form a yellow color, namely PbCrO4 and a white color, namely PbCl2 The content of cosmetic preparations must meet safety requirements and contamination thresholds in contamination of harmful metals such as lead (Pb). The purpose of this study is to determine the level of lead (Pb) in cosmetics, it is necessary to analyze the heavy metal lead (Pb) contained in body lotion preparations. The method used to determine lead (Pb) levels qualitatively by using test reagents and quantitatively using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method. The analysis used is verification methods that include linearity, precision, accuracy, LoD and LoQ, as well as sensitivity. The results obtained from five body lotion samples obtained less visible results in the dropping of test reagents in qualitative tests, so that further tests were carried out using atomic absorption spectrophotometry instruments and obtained concentration values. The highest level was found in sample A, which was 0.0930 mg / L. conclusion of body lotion samples circulating in online stores and supermarkets are safe for use by the public because they do not exceed the limit set by BPOM RI No. 12 of 2019, which is no more than 20 mg / kg or 20 mg / L (20 ppm).
