Abstract
Repellent is a preparation that is able to manipulate the smell and taste of moist skin, and is able to prevent mosquitoes from approaching because it inhibits lactic acid and receptors on mosquito antennas by blocking receptors on lactic acid which causes loss of contact between prey and mosquitoes. Purple basil leaves can play a role in mosquito repellent activity because they contain flavonoids, saponins, eugenol and alkaloids. The aim of this study was to formulate a mosquito repellent lotion with various concentrations of purple basil leaf extract. Purple basil leaves were extracted by maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent. Variations used in lotion preparations are 3 variations of the active substance extract 2%, 6% and 10%. Physical quality tests were carried out in the form of organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, pH measurements, spreadability, adhesion, stability, viscosity, and emulsion type tests, as well as testing the active substance repellent on Anopheles aconitus mosquitoes. The data obtained was processed by statistical analysis (ANOVA) using the two-way method to obtain significant results. The results of the repellent effectiveness test obtained results with concentrations of 2%, 6%, and 10% which showed effective potential results because they already had a repellent power of > 80%, namely 82.98%, 87.73%, and 94.65%. The best effective protection power is 2%. The results of the evaluation of the physical quality test of lotion with a concentration of 2% were the best preparations, slightly viscous dosage form, soft texture, light brown color, homogeneity, stable at pH 6 and spreadability of 5-8 cm. Purple basil leaf extract can be made into lotion preparations with good physical quality tests. Keywords : Ocimum sanctum, Anopheles aconitus, Repellent, Lotion
