Abstract

Leaf kenikir (Cosmos caudatus H.B.K.) is one of the medicinal plants and contains essential oils. The aim of this research was to know the levels and thin layer chromatography (TLC) profile of essential oil from fresh and dried leaves of C.caudatus H.B.K.. The research was conducted by analyzing the oil content of fresh and dried leaves of C.caudatus by the Clavenger hydrodistillation method. The leaves were put in distillation flask and then it was heated for 4 hours. TLC analysis used silica gel GF254 as a stationary phase and toluene : ethyl acetate (93 : 7) as the mobile phase. The results showed that the essential oil content of fresh and dried leaves were significantly different by 0.13% and 0.67%, respectively. The results of thin layer chromatography analysis showed that one spot with Rf 0,6 on fresh leaf and four stain spots with Rf 0,2; 0,46; 0,6; 0,76 on dried leaf.
